Well, as I told Yahweh God as I sat on this small ledge up here in the Angel Court… This… is far bigger than my head! I told Yahweh God I needed His help, I felt so daunted, so without a clue before even writing… anything… But recording is what I do… He said…

Ok, I know that we often say “Lord” and “God”, and we tacitly assume that we are usually referring to the God introduced in the Old Testament. Why are we afraid to use, revel in His real name?

“And God (Elohim) said to Moses ‘I AM who I AM.’ And He said ‘Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel I AM has sent me to you.’ And said again God to Moses ‘Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel ‘ ‘Yahweh (YHWH, however you choose to pronounce it), the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is my title (zacharenu, my memorial, how I want to be remembered) to generation and generation.’ ‘ ” (Ex. 3:14, 15)

I realize that in our time, our Jewish brothers and sisters don’t like to use the name Yahweh, hear this name said out loud, and I am not trying to make light of that. But this verse from Torah (along with others) makes it clear that Yahweh God intended this name to be used for Him! So it shouldn’t surprise us that the the name Yahweh is one of the most common words, used so many thousands of times in all the Old Covenant writings! And Yahweh told his servants the prophets to specifically announce this name! You don’t need to take my word for this. In good English translations, when you find capital “L” followed by “ORD” in smaller caps, the Hebrew word is Yahweh. This word is… all over the place!

On top of that, the largely Jewish early followers if Jesus did not hesitate to infer the name Yahweh (kurios without the article), both when quoting the Old Covenant writings, and otherwise. And “Ho Theos” is the most common Greek word set for God in the New Testament [maybe at times going beyond syntax and implying ‘the only God’ taken from the Hebrew ‘Yahweh Hu HaElohim’, which is Yahweh He is the God]. But there was no question in the early church’s mind that Theos, Ho Theos almost always refers to Yahweh. And in a delightful nod to trinitarian theology, the name Yahweh is also often used to refer to the Anointed of Yahweh, the Messiah (Christos). For example, Jeremiah, referring to the Messiah, writes “And this is his name by which he will be called ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’ ” (Jer. 23:6:b) The name Yahweh is even applied to our precious Messiah, Jesus! They are both God after all.

Yahweh God is the creator of the Universe. Yahweh is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords (as is Messiah Jesus). Yahweh God is adored, worshipped and praised in the Psalms. The Prophets warned Israel in Yahweh’s Name. The Messiah is also referred to as Yahweh (sharing the Father’s deity). And the Early Church did not hesitate to infer the name Yahweh, whether Old Testament quote or not.

The modern Church… We have become so content with far less… The words “God” and “Lord” do have some utility, but they have become mere titles in our age, meaning many things to many different people. As a result, both the generic “Lord” and “God”, both serve to help push the Church of Messiah Jesus “out there”, suddenly dashing into the light out of nowhere when Jesus came. We tacitly accept the Old Testament God and his role, so we can enjoy the rest of the Old Testament to some degree… But in many regards, the Church of Messiah Jesus can often seem so adrift, so untethered… It was never meant to be like that!

Yahweh God… That name… It is absolutely clear who we are referring to, here on earth as well as in the heavenly realms! It was Yahweh God who created the heavens and the earth. It was Yahweh God who created Adam and Eve! It was Yahweh God who worked to reveal Himself to a rapidly growing population, increasingly bent on evil, thanks to satan’s influence. It was Yahweh God Himself who rescues Noah and his families from a world-wide flood, and starts over with them. It was Yahweh God who called out to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, choosing the nation Israel for His inheritance, then waiting patiently until the nations in Canaan were so wicked that their extermination was justified, even though the Canaanites attacked Israel first! It was Yahweh God who called to Moses, ultimately bringing Abraham’s descendents out of Egypt, and into their promised inheritance. And in the process, Yahweh God gave Israel both a coherent worship system, as well as fair rules regulating how the Israelites were to get along. And Yahweh God individually and specifically called each of the Prophets, tasking them to speak in HIS name to His people. And when Israel whined for a King, Yahweh God gave them their pick (Saul) then Yahweh God’s own pick (David). And, beginning with David’s own tender heart, it was Yahweh God who slowly surfaced the promise of the Messiah who would come, ultimately the Son of Yahweh God Himself. And the birth of this Son (Jesus) was calmly nestled in the lives of clear followers of Yahweh God. And this upstart teacher who healed 90% of Judah and Galilee (Messiah Jesus), He never disparaged His Father (Yahweh), nor the Law He had given. Even at His death, Jesus lovingly called out to His Father, Yahweh God. And this… The New Testament writers agree, that the resurrection of Jesus was the result of… Yahweh God’s amazing power, and that Messiah Jesus is at His right hand now. And from Jesus’ resurrection on… “No man comes to the Father except through Me.”

“I am the alpha and the omega says Yahweh God (kurios ho theos), the one being, and the one who was, and the one coming, the almighty” Rev. 1:8 The ONLY God… from the creation of the universe far beyond it’s destruction… His name is Yahweh, our precious heavenly Father!

Ok, wow… Why the disconnect? Why do we not revel in God’s real name?

I don’t get paid to do this (I wish!) and my knowledge is limited, but I can observe the following…

Post-resurrecton Jewish leaders had an axe to grind with Christianity and the Jewish believers in Messiah Jesus who started it. And that antagonism has continued through subsequent history. While Jesus preached, it seems Jewish leaders were already avoiding actually using, saying God’s real name, lest they “accidentally” say something bad. Well, they never used God’s real name at all as a result, even though Yahweh intended His name to be used, remembered according to Moses. And, I don’t know, this emphasis on oral tradition… The Apostle Paul knew the Jewish Torah so well, and gave us a lot of the New Testament using the Tanak to prove, under-gird, and regulate Christianity. Yahweh God Himself was behind both! But Christianity was, is such a scripture constrained set of beliefs. So this “oral tradition” thing… Rooted in Jewish tradition, this is just another smoke screen. Yahweh God gave Moses the exact words to use, to write down. Moses didn’t use or need any oral traditions. But I can see Jewish leadership pushing this to water down this strictly scripture based Jewish off-shoot (Christianity, [/grin!]).

Closer to our day, German Higher Criticism has done a lot to try and tear down the scriptures that hold Christianity together. Well, this isn’t rocket science. The link between German Higher Criticism and that evil madman Hitler’s out-spokenly anti-christian upper echelon (…think Gestapo)… Their clearly stated goal was to destroy the Old Testament because it was so Jewish, and they used every means… As a professor at a german theological college, resisting that would be very difficult, and a lot of theological garbage resulted. But why are we still paying any attention to this stuff? I hope I get to research this more, but this madman Hitler was behind so much theological error, and this very error has continued to grow, all on it’s own, un-abated, tearing down everything Christian in it’s path, and colleges have graduated a generation of athiests in this country as a result… What?!?!? And Hitlers playtoy, trying to seperate the Church from the Old Testament… That still keeps popping up…

There is probably a lot more…

——-

But I do clearly know this.

a. For me… having a real name of a real Person to worship, adore, to serve… I will love, serve and obey Yahweh God forever, in Messiah Jesus’ precious name, because Yahweh God WILL BE… FOREVER!!!

b. History is Yahweh’s continuum: the Church is as much Yahweh God’s work as was Moses directing nomads in the sand in building the tabernacle, and David’s kingship preparing for the Temple of Yahweh in Jerusalem.

c. Following hard on the above, I can see the lying destroying evil one (satan) working overtime to try to break apart the perception of Yahweh God’s clear and central, commanding role in ALL of human history. This is just part of satan’s strategy to destroy the reality of the one true God, which makes it easier to surface a bunch of smaller ‘gods’, and etc…

d. Messiah Jesus is now the only way to Yahweh God, our precious heavenly Father. And one day, Jesus Himself will surrender everything… to the Father, Yahweh!

Some Qualifications

I know very godly, dedicated Christians that are comfortable with, satisfied with saying Lord and Lord God. “Lord God” is a translation of Yahweh Elohim, but I really don’t have a problem with believers using simply Lord, God, Lord God… If believers are comfortable, I am not trying to rock anyone’s boat! And it is not even my place to weigh in on that. “To our own Lord we stand or fall!” But for me… One… holds everything… together… And His name… is priceless to me… Yahweh! (…in Messiah Jesus’ name of course!) Besides… Early in the history of humanity, Yahweh’s name was known to mankind. Then He told Moses… There is probably a reason for all this…

And I am not trying to undo Jesus’ Lordship! If anything, Jesus pointed us to Yahweh God. Note that Jesus took every available opportunity to submit Himself, and defer worship to His heavenly Father, Yahweh God. Jesus was clear and vocal that He was speaking what Yahweh God gave Him to say.  And I also know I haven’t mentioned… The Holy Spirit, the third member of the Trinity, His role as the channel between us and Yahweh God, both for leadership and for power, this role is indispensable… The Trinity remains so tightly bound up in everything Yahweh did, does, will do…

His name is Yahweh!

We get but a glimpse of His mighty power, as He called the known universe into existance… out of nothing…

We marvel at His role in human history from the very beginning…

We learn to worship Him as He revealed Himself to Israel…

We praise and adore Him along with the Psalmists…

We fear Him as His Prophets confronted rebellion…

We learn abject and utter dependence on Him as He brought His own Son into the world… to die in our place… as the sole and only sufficient sacrifice to save us…

We will love and adore Yahweh God, our heavenly Father… in Jesus’ precious name, and by His blood… forever…

His name is Yahweh…
